Posted 20/04/2008 04:04:44 PM | | PEMBROKE - IV was a term used for accounting purposes; it was within the main Pembroke barracks complex at Chatham and initially in 1939 referred to the section that looked after the pay & admin etc. of men drafted to ships being brought out of reserve; then for some destroyers based at locally. It also covered a variety of 'out stations' for pay and admin purposes, such as naval parties at Southend (1940-41) and Tilbury (1940-43); in 1944 they actually moved out of the RN barracks and re-located to a house in Rochester, until they closed in 1946.
If you have someone who is shown as being at 'Pembroke-IV', it will not mean that they necessarily were actually there, rather, that it refers to the place their pay etc was administered from
