 Hello again.
Following information as per service records
Baldur  /   24th to 30th June 1942
Duty Army  /  1st to 14th July 1942
Baldur  /  15th July 1942 to 30th June 1943
Baldur (Mythcett Camp)  1st to 9th July 1943

Looking at a copy of Shore Estabalishments of the RN by Lt.Cdr.B. Warlow, RN  I can see that HMS Baldur was a base in Iceland.  Could you please explain what 'duty army' means and also Mythcett Camp as having scoured numerous websites can find no information regarding same.  He was back at Pembroke on 10th July 1943, was Mythcett Camp in the UK?  Also are there any photographs of such bases?.   Thank you.

Never heard of a 'Mythcett camp' - but there was a Mytchett Camp. This was an army base near Aldershot.

I would think that 'Duty Army' means that he was attached to the Army - i.e. his parent establishment, which was responsible for pay and admin. etc. was at Baldur, but during the dates shown he was with an army unit.  You don't say what his trade was, but for certain branches (signals for example) it was not uncommon for naval specialists to be loaned to other services where their expertise was needed.

I'm new to the site but HMS Baldur was not only a base in Iceland
but was also the name of the barracks ship there as well.

Originally the s/s Prinses Marie-Jose renamed HMS Nemesis and then renamed HMS Baldur and at war's end renamed s/s Prinses Marie-Jose. She belonged to a group of ships I am researching, my late Father's ship was the HMS Prins Albert.

Hi norfolkdumpling,
The Royal Navy Doctor came through with some photos of the shore base and at long last I have found the information I need on Princesse Marie~Jose. her wartime service is as follows

1923 s/s Princesse Marie-José

1940 HMS Southern Isles

1941 HMS Nemesis

1943 HMS Baldur, replacing HMS Baldur ex St. Clair

1945 HMS Nemesis

1945 s/s Princesse Marie-José
Could you send me an email via leslie@tsn.cc and you can have the information that I now have.
