This probably is the School, based in St Margarets House, Twickenham, which was a private, fee-paying boarding school, set up in 1857 exclusively for the daughters of naval officers. Its proper title was the "Royal School for Naval and Marine Officers' Daughters". It moved to Haslemere in 1941 and became amalgamated with another, similar school. It still exists today, but is not exclusive to the navy, andis known as the Royal School. Their website is: http://www.royal.surrey.sch.uk/index.php |

Thank you again PhiloNautica. That particular wife (my father had 3 - not all at once!) was a Wingfield and I think her grandfather was Lt David Wingfield , the last British POW released by the Americans. Her father was Henry Egerton Wingfield, Fleet Engineer RN, according to the marriage certificate. |
