She was part of the East Indies fleet from 1940,based in the Indian Ocean, usually Mombasa / Durban / Aden escorting convoys.
In May-June 1943 she was at Simonstown, South Africa, being refitted before moving to Trincomalee in July to resume convoy escort duties, screening ships moving across the Indian Ocean. On 12 February 1944 whilst escorting convoy KR8, consisting of five troop transports, they were attacked by the Japanese submarine I-27, which torpedoed one of the transports; the sub was located by the escorts and after being forced to the surface was sunk in a gun action.
In early 1944 she returned home to the UK, arriving in the Clyde 29 March 1944. After refit she joined the 1st Cruiser Squadron based at Plymouth for the D-Day landings.
On D-Day (6.6.44) she was part of the force supporting the landings at Utah beach, bombarding shore batteries at Maisy and St.Martin de Varreville. Over the next few days she continued to carry out bombardments of shore positions as well as act as a 'small craft depot', looking after the numerous small landing craft. She went to Rosyth in July 44 to be used as a training ship.
She was eventually scrapped in 1947
