I am a practising seafarer researching Volcanic Hazards to Ships.  I would like any help ayone can give me on adverse effects to HMS Protector (if any) when she encountered extensive floating pumice rafts in 1962.

If anyone has experienced other volcanic eruptions while serving at sea I would also be interested in anything you have to say.  Even if you think it is trivial the information may be of good use in my research, as I found with some US Navy correspondents who experienced the Mt Pinatubo eruption while they were stationed at Subic Bay.

Thanks for any help you can give
