I would like some information on HMS Quality.My father George Bardsley served in the Royal Navy in WW2 and I have several old photographs.He died in 1970 when I was young and so I know nothing about his war service.I have photos of ships numbered G62 and G70,and others in Rotorua New Zealand.Can anyone help?

QUALITY was a 'Q' class destroyer.

Tecchy stuff - built by Swan Hunter at Wallsend, launched 6 October 1941.  Completed in September 1942.
1705 tons     358.7ft x 35.7ft
steam turbines / geared turbines / 2 shafts = 36 knots
armed: 4 x 4.7in, 4 x 2pdr, 6 x 20mm guns plus 8 torpedo tubes and 70 depth charges
Her Pennant number was G.62;  G.70 was her sister, Queenborough.

Career:
9.1942 - working up
11.1942 attached 6th Destroyer Flotilla, Home waters then with 'Force H' in the Med. to cover Operation Torch (landings in north Africa)in early 11.42
3.1943 to Durban, south Africa with 4th DF
5.43 returned UK waters; bsed on the Clyde
3.8.1943 sailed Clyde for the Far East; stationed at Trincomalee, Ceylon (Sri Lanka)
3 - 4.1944 tookpart in Operation Diplomat (deployment into Indian Ocean)
7.1944 - took part in Operation Crimson, the attack on Saband (Sumatra); the destroyers bombarded the harbour then entered to fire torpedoes at short range; during this close action Quality was hit by fire from shore batteries.
8.1944 - to Simonstown, South Africa for battle damage repairs
10.44 - rejoins the fleet
2.1945 - escort to the battleship Howe on deployment to Auckland, New Zealand.
3.1945 - joined Task Force 57 for operations at Okinawa, escorting the aircraft carrier Illustrious
5.1945 part of TF.57 for more op's at Okinawa
2.9.1945 - part of the allied fleet that entered Tokyo Bay to witness the surrender of Japan.
10.1945 to Sydney, Australia.

26.10.1945 transferred to the Royal Australian Navy, becoming HMAS Quality.   She remained in Aussie service untilscrapped in 1958.
