Gretings from 'downunder',

Can anyone assist me with photo's and or ANY info on Strath class Trawlers/Minesweepers please? I am particularly after ships names and photo's.

I believe they may? have originated in WW1 and certainly saw service during WW2.

Thankyou,
Roger Pearson.

Roger

The Strath class were part of the Admiralty's trawler building programme of 1917; three commercial designs were selected; from Hall Russel the 'Strath' type; from Smiths Dock  the 'Castle' type and from Cochrane, the 'Mersey' type, all of which were proven commercial designs.

In all 167 ships were ordered to the 'Strah' design (pluse 217 to the Castle and 156 to the Mersey).  Not all were completed, in the case of the 'Straths' only 149 were built for the Navy.

Most were sold out in 1919-20 for commercial use, and many were purchased or hired back in 1939=40.

To list the names and numbers of them all here would be tedious.

Have a look at:

for a very detailed look at the type
