On my late Father's Service Sheet there is and entry of WIA which I presume is Wounded in Action. I know that he was wounded during his time in WW2.
But as to where or when I don't know. Is there any way of finding out as I am pretty sure he was wounded in the Landings on Elba.
I live in Australia so the internet is my best way or failing that the good old snail mail.
Regards..

Wounds received in action was one of a limited number of notations relating to war service that were authorised to be inserted on service certificates (KRAI Vol 1 1943 Chapter XIII Art 606(2). The clue to when and where you father was wounded may therefore be found in his service record sheet which you mention you still have. If you can forward a copy to carnock@davemallinson.fsnet.co.uk I will try and interpret the sequence of events.
