hi can anyone help me,

The sea scout group i help run has just brough a new boat, we believe it is the sucessor to the navy whaler, its about 18 foot long and has a gunter rigged main sail and jib, does not have a mison.

The boat requires some work on it however i was hoping to find some photos and some history on this boat.

Can anyone help us out??

i look forward to hearing from you if you can

HI, Phil!
Your boat was not a replacement for the whaler (of which there are three types, Montague (sailing/pulling), 3-in-1 (sailing/pulling/engine) and motor whaler (engine only) and which are 27' long. Is the boat GRP or wood ? Look on the transom for a set of figures e.g. 5679 which would indicate that the boat was #79 of a batch built in 1956. Or, if you can post a photo I may be able to help identify as I am a volunteer in the Historic Boat Section of Portsmouth Naval Base Heritage Area.
Cheers

Hi Phil,

Any luck with discovering the origin of your boat?

Definitely not an RN whaler, we have a few around, but if she is clinker built of wood and at 18' it sounds like one of the old cutters we used to have at the National Sea Scout Training camp at Marlow in Bucks.
A pic would be useful!
Mail me direct at   art@body.org.nz and I can drop you some photo's to compare.

yours aye,

Art
