I have seen Surprise variously described as a Frigate a Despatch Vessel an Admiralty Yact and Royal Yacht.

Unc' served on her 1947 - 1948 anyone know she might have been then??

Cheers,

Skers.

SURPRISE was completed as a Despatch Vessel in 1946, for use by CinC's on foreign stations. In 1947 - 1948 she was in the Med. acting as the flagship of CinC Mediterranean

Thanks again Phil, where would we be without you.

Researching my Uncs papers is not as easy as first thought and although you have helped greatley there are a lot of question still unanswered.

Do you know of any Official site where I could get more info on RN papers?

I don't know about an official site, but you could try using the Mariners list.  A number of very knowledgable people use it who may be able to help.

See:
