What did you stitch in the war?

I am a textiles student researching the use of embroidery and stitch during WW2.  I am particularly, but not exclusively intersted in the embroidery patterns produced by Wm Briggs and Co under the Penelope brand for HM Forces for use in service and civilian hospitals, convalescence homes and internment camps for occupational therapy and education purposes.  But I am also interested in the use of stitch to while away the long hours of inactivity during wartime.  I have come across some fascinating stories and would love to hear from anyone who has any reminiscence to share: perhaps memories of doing stitch in wartime, or perhaps of teaching sewing skills or maybe of relatives who stitched during this period.  Equally if there are any surviving examples of work or patterns, then I would very much like to know.  Thank you in anticipation.
