I am looking for help to find my dad's service record in RN 1939 until demob. He served on a number of ships including HMS QUORN. He was on Atlantic Convoys, I know he spent time in Reykjavik, Bermuda and somehow ended up on beaches on D-Day. He spent a year in hospital in Fremantle with TB (c. 1941-42?). His name Duncan Macpherson and as far as I know he was a radio operator. Any suggestions for sites that would help? Thanks.
Ruth Macpherson

There are no websites with this info - you will have to apply for a copy of his service record from:

Data Protection Cell (Navy)
Victory View
Building 1/152
HM Naval Base
Portsmouth
PO1 3PX

Tel: 02392 727 381/723 114/720 014/727 470/727 531
Fax: 02392 725 829

State that you are his daughter, and give as much detail as you can (i.e. full name, date of birth).  His record will record ships and bases that he was drafted to etc.
As/when you obtain it, if you post up the details, then someone should be able to help de-cyphering it

Thank you PhiloNauticus! I'm grateful for your help. Once I get more info. and access to a scanner, I may be able to post a couple of photos that may be of interest.

PhiloNauticus - I have a partial photo (it may have been a postcard-type thing) of my dad and a colleague in their uniforms - I've no date but notice that the ship's name on their caps appears to have been expertly cut-out (possibly with a scalpel, it's so neat). Was this normal practice?

It would look like the censor has had a go at it? During WW2 the names of ships were dropped from cap tallies, being replaced by a simple 'HMS'; perhaps if he had retained a ships name on his cap then the censor deleted it.  Certainly photos of ships were checked and often 'cleaned up' of identifying marks before release.
