I am also looking for information on my great grandfather and family. Family name is Bryan, great grandfather was Hugh David Bryan, b at Stoneyhurst, married to Ellen Lewis, b at Caernarfon, Wales. He was Assistant Naval Attache to the British Embassy in France around 1904, died around 1914 from the flu. My grandfather, his only child was Hugh Geoffry Lewis Bryan, b Oct 24, 1902. Apparently most of the Bryan's had served the Royal Navy for generations. As both my great grandparents as well as my grandfather were only children, its hard to find anything. Hugh Geoffry Lewis Bryan (my grandfather) emigrated to Canada around 1920.
I just don't know where to go to find any official information so would appreciate any addresses, email addresses, anything that would help me look. My mom is 77 yrs old and would like to know more about her dad and his family if she could.

...re: Bryan.  There is a problem here.  The names and outline details of all men who enlisted with the Royal Navy 1853 - 1923 may now be accessed from the National Archives at:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/royal-navy-service.asp

However, checking the details you gave produces no result...

These records don't include officers, and if he had been a naval attache it would suppose that he was an officer, and easier to track through the published Navy Lists.  However, on looking at Navy Lists for 1898 - 1905 - 1910 I can find no trace of any H D Bryan.
