HMS Plymouth was in Aus in 1970 my father was part of the crew and if he were alive today he would no doubt have remembered any who had jumped ship. I cant give you any more info than this but good luck in your search S |

Hi lost D I have just read your post, I am in the same boat as you, my father was in the Royal Navy like yours, He to knocked up a young Aussi Girl,my mother in hobart 1957,I only made contact with my mother 10 years ago, the only things she remembers is his nickname Blackie, and that he came from Wales. Any way hpoe you had some luck, there is another site call the british merchant navy -old friend pluss. I did see a scully or sully name there on one of the forums, they also have a royal navy forum as well, Good Luck! Mick | |||

I have just joined the RN Forum today and I hope I may help in your search. I was on the (old) RFA Reliant supply ship to HMS Eagle on her last commission before she was paid off and scrapped; we were part of her supply group and were with HMS Eagle in Sydney’s RAN Naval Base with RN Frigates and Destroyers of her Escort plus other supporting RFA's. This will be about 1971-2, we were also with HMS Jaguar on a visit to Bunbury. Cannot remember what other ships were in the group unfortunately. You will be able to get the exact visit dates and names of the visiting ships from the Sydney newspapers as Captain Robinson of HMS Eagle birthed his ship without the aid of the harbour tugs who promptly went on strike (as they do) preventing the fleet leaving which caused a bit of a delay and a media storm so if you check the Sydney newspapers, around maybe Aug/Sept/Oct time 1971 you might find the information you need. To be more exact, if you can, check the Sydney Police records as there was a couple of lads from one or more ships were arrested for GBH after going “Going on the Town” and going AWOL. I think, I maybe wrong of course (probably am) but I think at least one lad done a “Runner” and was found a couple of weeks/months later possibly living with young lass outside Sydney. The other(s) maybe gave themselves up or were arrested. You could also try the RN “Navy News" Newspaper & website, they may have a record of ships on deployment in the area and visiting Aussie in your time period. Just an idea, “Sully” could be short for the name “Sullivan”. I hope this helps in your search and doesn’t “lead you up the garden path” so the very best of luck. Roy |
